Dental Cleanings for Oral Health

Routine dental cleanings are an important part of preventive care and are generally recommended every six months (or possibly more frequently). During your visit, our team will remove plaque, tartar, and debris that has accumulated on your teeth, including buildup along the gumline. Your teeth will also be polished to leave them feeling smooth and refreshed.

Regular cleanings help reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease while giving your dentist an opportunity to monitor changes in your oral health. Based on the condition of your teeth and gums, we may recommend additional care to keep your smile healthy.

To ensure that you have a clear understanding of what is involved in the dental cleaning procedure, please refer to the information provided below. If you have additional questions or would like to schedule an appointment, contact us today at 281-359-9100, or visit our office, which is located at 1542 Green Oak Pl, Kingwood, TX 77339.

Dental Cleanings for Adults

For most adults with healthy teeth and gums, it is considered best practice to schedule dental cleanings every six months; however, adults with periodontal disease or who are more susceptible to developing periodontal disease may require more frequent visits. Most dental cleanings begin with the removal of plaque, calculus, and debris that have accumulated around your gums and between your teeth. Once this is done, a special paste is used to polish each of your teeth, after which we will professionally floss your teeth. Finally, you will rinse out your mouth, and if necessary or desired, we will conclude the dental cleaning treatment by administering a fluoride treatment.

Dental Cleanings for Children

There is often uncertainty among parents as to when they should begin scheduling their children for regular dental cleanings. Because children are especially susceptible to developing cavities during the first decade of their lives, we recommend that parents begin scheduling regular dental cleanings for their children at a very young age. In addition to preventing or identifying cavities early, these dental cleanings will ensure that your children’s teeth are developing properly and will reduce the risk of them developing dental phobia later in life.

Patients with Sensitive Teeth

Patients with sensitive teeth will often avoid scheduling dental cleanings or dental exams. If you have sensitive teeth and are concerned about the pain involved in the procedure, please know that our staff is trained to practice gentle dentistry on patients with sensitive teeth. We also offer a range of anesthetic options that can both reduce or eliminate any pain associated with the dental cleaning and reduce your anxiety about having the procedure performed.

Maintaining Your Oral Health

To continue enjoying good oral health and reduce your risk of developing oral health issues in the future, continue brushing and flossing (twice daily, minimum), be mindful of the types of food and beverages you consume, and avoid foods or substances that can negatively impact your oral health (chewing tobacco, staining foods, sugary drinks).

It is equally important to schedule regular dental exams every six months, or more frequently, depending on your unique oral health needs. Regular dental cleanings also include a general examination that will look for the following:

  • Indications of gum disease: The bone and gums around your teeth will be evaluated for any indications of periodontitis.
  • Indications of tooth decay: An evaluation of tooth decay will be conducted using specialized instruments on your tooth surfaces.
  • Evaluation of existing restorations: Any existing fillings, crowns, or restorations will be examined and corrected if necessary.
  • Oral cancer screening: One of the most important services we provide is examining your lips, gums, throat, neck, and face for indications of oral cancer.

Cost and Insurance Coverage for Dental Cleaning

The cost of your dental cleaning will depend on the severity of your case, what insurance coverage from your dental plan can be applied, and other factors. It is important to be aware that the therapeutic procedure you are having performed may not be covered by your plan.

It is also important to be aware that you are fully responsible for all fees and payment is due at the time of service, regardless of your insurance coverage. Monthly payment plans can be arranged, but this will need to be established prior to the procedure being performed. Although we may not have a contractual arrangement with your provider, our staff is happy to assist with processing your insurance claim to ensure that you maximize your benefits and receive the high-quality care you need and deserve. For your convenience, we accept Mastercard, Visa, and Discover.
