Your dentist will likely be able to see you within a couple of hours but even if their office is closed, call anyway to see if there is an emergency number for you to reach your dentist.
If you are unable to reach someone, go ahead and go to the emergency room. Most hospitals have a dentist on staff and they may be able to help! At the very least, they can prescribe an antibiotic and pain medication to help alleviate your suffering until you can see your dentist.
Now, if you simply chipped a tooth, this can likely wait until your dentist can assess the tooth and determine the best plan of treatment. If your tooth is cracked however, this can cause a lot of pain and should be addressed in an emergency appointment. Even if you are not experiencing pain at the moment, a cracked tooth can lead to further damage when left unattended. A fractured tooth can lead to nerve damage and eventually loss of tooth and require an implant.
Facial and dental traumas can be troublesome and your care is everyone’s concern. Even if you are unable to reach your dentist, they will be glad that you are able to receive immediate treatment and at least get out of pain. Receiving the care you need as quickly as possible can actually save you money in the long run.
